Welcome to my first newsletter and for those of you who have been waiting a while apologies for taking so long to write it! In this first newsletter my aim is to give you a little bit of background information about me for those of you who don't know me.
Firstly, who am I and what do I do?
I am a Contemporary Botanical Artist of 30 years’ experience and I work in a variety of media including colour pencil, watercolour, graphite and ink. I also make handmade artists books. My work often has a quirky humorous element to it which makes it instantly recognizable. I have run workshops, classes and demonstrations for many years, for 8 of these with Kent Adult Education. In the last 2 years I have had some life changes which have enabled me to join the growing number of independent women who truly believe that life can begin again at 50! I have been promising a newsletter for a while now and at last as life becomes more settled the time is perfect to share my thoughts and journey with you.
One of the first exciting challenges last year was the opportunity of teaching watercolour classes on a variety of Saga cruises, I completed 6 cruises last year in locations from the top of the world to the bottom! I am delighted to have been offered 3 more this year.
Based in Kent I live in my converted Movano van which this week has gone in for an internal remodeling to make it a more comfortable space to paint and live in, my mobile studio and home. Check out my Instagram and Facebook page for more details about the before and after. Having given back my studio space recently I am planning some travel adventures in my van later in the year.
Each newsletter will come out bi-monthly and contain information about where I am teaching and exhibiting, a little bit of van life and some info on art materials I'm currently using, techniques and what I am up to in my working art practice. So, sign up and subscribe and we can go on this adventure together and feel free to let me know in the comments section what you would like to see and know.
So where can you find me in the next month or 2?
Firstly, I will be teaching at the beautiful West Dean College on May 12th to 14th. We will be painting a variety of spring items in detail in watercolour.
In May I will also be demonstrating coloured pencil techniques at the Society of Botanical Artists Exhibition on the 19th so come and say hello if you are in the area. Tickets for this event are available on Eventbrite:
I will be exhibiting 2 pictures in this exhibition which is at the Mall Galleries in London and runs from 16th May to 20th May
Finally at the end of June, 29th I will be joining the Saga cruise to Iceland and Greenland where I will be running workshops in a variety of topical subjects in watercolour.
I am also available for Workshops for private groups, art groups and societies. Contact me via my website for my availability.
I would love to hear from you so feel free to leave me a comment below about what future content you would like to see.
